5 Tips To Be More Productive When Working From Home

Working from home has become the norm for a lot of people now, and sometimes it can be tough going. It might also be quite expensive as you try to kit out your home office with everything you need. But some companies that sell office furniture in Essex offer a finance option, so you can build the perfect office without breaking the bank.

If you find that the novelty of working from home has worn off, keep reading and discover 5 tips to help you be more productive.

Have A Routine

One of the best ways to be productive is to create a routine for yourself and stick to it. Have your workday plan start from the second you get up to the minute you finish. Having a morning routine will make it feel as though you’re actually getting ready for work.

Don’t roll out of bed 10 minutes before you’re due to start, otherwise, your brain and body won’t be ready for the day. Get up at the same time you would if you were commuting, have a decent breakfast, and maybe even throw in a little exercise. You want to start your day motivated and ready to go so that you can be productive for as long as you can.

Eliminate Distractions

It can be so hard to not get distracted when working from home. The temptation to scroll through your phone for a few minutes can be huge but try and stop yourself from doing anything non-work-related unless you’re on your lunch or break.

Turn your phone onto its silent mode and put it out of sight. This way you won’t be tempted to look each time a notification pings up. Similarly, don’t try and do household chores during your workday either. Try and get as much of them done either the night or morning before so that you’re not distracted by the things you still need to do.

Ensure Your Workspace Is Efficient

Your productivity can be directly affected by your environment, so make sure you’ve got a quiet, clean space that’s designated just for your work. Keep your desk tidy and only surround yourself with what you need. Clutter will make it hard to think straight and cause your focus levels to drop.

You also want to make sure that your area is comfortable in all aspects of the word. Don’t keep the room too hot or cold, and don’t have bright white lights that will hurt your eyes. Your body and mind need to be comfortable for you to be able to work efficiently.
Take Breaks

Just because you’re working from home doesn’t mean you can’t take breaks. In the office, you’d probably have taken trips to the kitchen area to grab a coffee and spent a few minutes chatting with your colleagues. Try and implement the same practices at home by taking actual breaks to give yourself a chance to reset. Although it’s easy to work through your lunch, don’t do it. Not giving yourself time to breathe and eat will hinder your performance and you’ll find it hard to keep your productivity going through the afternoon.

Set Household Boundaries

One problem that you might have while working from home is that you aren’t alone and struggle to get peace and quiet. This can make it difficult for you to maintain a consistent productivity level. The best solution to this problem is to set boundaries with the other members of your household and kindly let them know what you need from them in order to be able to work properly.

With younger children, this can be especially hard, so if you’re really struggling it might be a good idea to speak to your manager and see if it’s possible to shift your hours slightly. A small change to your hours could do wonders for your productivity, so don’t be afraid to speak up!

A lot of people prefer working from home, with no commuting and more free time in the evenings being a huge bonus. But some people might find it hard to keep their productivity at the same level as it would be in the office. However, these 5 tips could really help boost it and get your motivation back. Why not try them out and see the amazing difference they can make to your day.
